Lineups for M’s-A’s series finale with 1st place on the line

The Seattle Mariners may be under .500 and missing two key members of their lineup, but after two straight wins in Sacramento the last two days, they’re playing for first place on Wednesday.

Passan on Mariners: ‘Everyone needs to be on board’ with piggyback

By clinching a series victory with those wins, the M’s have cut the Athletics’ lead for first place in the AL West to just a half-game. That means that with a win in the 12:05 p.m. series finale, the Mariners (27-29 record) would jump ahead of the A’s (27-28) for the division lead.

It could certainly be worse for a team that’s without both star catcher Cal Raleigh, who is on the injured list working his way back from an oblique strain, and Brendan Donovan, the big offseason trade acquisition who is currently on his second IL stint of the year for a groin strain.

The Mariners will face off Wednesday against Athletics left-hander Jeffrey Springs, who has a 4.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 3-5 record in 11 starts this season.

Robles, who returned from the IL last week, has been moved up a spot in the batting order after going 3 for 3 with a double and run scored in Tuesday’s 4-1 win.

On the mound for the Mariners will be Logan Gilbert, who has a 4.04 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 2-4 record in 11 starts. He’s coming off of a scoreless outing last Friday in Kansas City where he held the Royals to just two hits and two walks while striking out six in 5 2/3 innings.

The Mariners will be off Thursday, then start a six-game homestand at T-Mobile Park at 7:10 p.m. Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
