The Seattle Mariners traded left-hander José Suarez to the Athletics for cash considerations on Thursday.
Why Cal Raleigh going on IL is good for him and Mariners
Suarez, a 28-year-old reliever, was acquired by the Mariners off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on May 3. He pitched in one game for Seattle, allowing one run on two hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out three over two innings last Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
Suarez was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Wednesday when right-hander Bryce Miller was reinstated off the injured list.

In nine total appearances this season with Mariners and Braves, Suarez has a 6.38 ERA and 2.07 WHIP over 18 1/3 innings of work.
This will be Suarez’s third stop with a team from the American League West during his eight-year big league career. He spent six seasons with the Los Angeles from 2018-24, posting a 5.47 ERA in 376 2/3 innings over 99 appearances.
The Mariners could end up facing Suarez soon. They begin a three-game road series against the Athletics on Monday, May 25.
