The Seattle Seahawks’ latest injury report on Friday provided an encouraging snapshot of the team’s overall health heading into next weekend’s Super Bowl.
In one of the unique twists of the two-week Super Bowl buildup, the Seahawks and New England Patriots were required to list whatever game status designations a player would have if the game were this Sunday instead of Feb. 8.
Has a Super Bowl-winning QB ever had a career like Sam Darnold?
The Seahawks only listed four players with designations: rookie fullback Robbie Ouzts (neck), backup fullback/key special teamer Brady Russell (hand) and reserve linebacker/special teamer Chazz Surratt (ankle) were questionable, while third-string offensive tackle Amari Kight (knee) was doubtful.
That means every other Seahawks player would have been considered healthy enough to play this Sunday.
And again, the actual game status designations won’t come until next Friday, so there’s time for players’ statuses to improve between now and then.
In addition to the game status designations, Friday’s injury report also included the usual practice participation listings.
Quarterback Sam Darnold (oblique) remained a limited participant, as he’s been since straining his oblique on Jan. 15.
Left tackle Charles Cross (foot) sat out practice for a second straight day as he nurses an injury he suffered in the Jan. 17 divisional round playoff win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Linebacker Ernest Jones IV (chest) was limited for a second straight day after landing on the injury report this week.
Safety Julian Love (shoulder) and linebacker Drake Thomas (shoulder) were upgraded to full participants after being listed as limited on Thursday.
Cornerback Josh Jobe (foot) was added to the injury report Friday as a limited participant.
Wide receiver Jake Bobo (hand), backup offensive tackle Josh Jones (ankle, knee), Ouzts and Russell each remained limited. Tight end Eric Saubert (hamstring) sat out practice for a second straight day.
Patriots’ injury report
The Patriots’ game status designations were less instructive, as they listed all nine players on their injury report as questionable if the Super Bowl were this Sunday.
Quarterback and MVP candidate Drake Maye, who was listed as limited with a shoulder injury on Wednesday and Thursday, sat out Friday’s practice with an illness.
