The Seattle Seahawks are “optimistic” that starting left tackle Charles Cross can play in Sunday’s NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters ahead of practice Thursday afternoon.

Cross was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday’s practice report after suffering a foot injury in the third quarter of Seattle’s 41-6 divisional round playoff rout of the San Francisco 49ers last Saturday night.

Cross’ foot injury came after he missed the final three games of the regular season with a hamstring injury and also dealt with a knee injury that he suffered in practice last week. But on Wednesday’s practice report, he was only listed with the foot injury.

“Charles is good,” Macdonald said. “We’ll see how today goes, but we’re optimistic for the game.”

Macdonald also said backup left tackle Josh Jones (knee, ankle) and third-string left tackle Amari Kight (knee) are “day to day” after being listed as non-participants in Wednesday’s practice.

Jones, a veteran swing tackle, started at left tackle in place of Cross for the final three games of the regular season – including in Week 18, when he played through a knee injury. He’s been sidelined from practice since that Week 18 game.

With Jones ruled out for last Saturday’s divisional round game, Kight filled in at left tackle after Cross got hurt. Kight, an undrafted rookie, injured his knee during the game, Macdonald said.

Macdonald declined to elaborate on the Seahawks’ contingency plans in the event none of their top three options at left tackles are available for Sunday.

“We have a plan for it,” Macdonald said. “I don’t really want to say what we’d do, but we have a plan for it.”
