SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

With ‘textbook’ technique, CB Josh Jobe excelling for Seahawks

Sep 16, 2025, 8:33 AM

This time last year, Josh Jobe was on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad.

My, how things have changed.

After taking over as Seattle’s third cornerback midway through last season and then re-signing with the team in March, Jobe maintained that third corner role heading into this fall.

And through the first two weeks of the 2025 campaign, he might be playing as well as any cornerback in the NFL.

10 numbers that stand out after Seahawks’ Week 2 win

Jobe has limited opposing quarterbacks Brock Purdy and Aaron Rodgers to a 22.2% completion rate through the Seahawks’ first two games, allowing just two catches for eight yards on nine targets, according to Pro Football Focus. That’s the lowest opponent completion rate in the NFL among cornerbacks who have been targeted at least five times.

Jobe also has recorded an interception and two pass breakups. His interception came on a highlight-reel play in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, when he picked off Purdy with a leaping grab over the deep-intermediate part of the field.

And in Sunday’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jobe helped shut down former Seahawks star receiver DK Metcalf. When he was the closest defender in coverage, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Jobe held Metcalf to no catches on two targets, according to PFF.

“He was so freaking awesome,” former NFL quarterback Brock Huard said during Monday’s Blue 88 segment on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk. “He was just in DK’s lap. He just did not back down at all. He just plays the technique so stinking well. He just gives you everything he’s got with his size and his speed, and he makes up for it with his brains and his tenacity.”

‘Flawless technique’

Former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus elaborated on Jobe’s technique and attention to detail on Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy, pointing to a particular snap where the fourth-year pro completely took Metcalf out of the play.

“He was manned up on DK and had inside leverage, a clear indication that he’s in man (coverage),” Bumpus said. “DK tries to inside release, (but Jobe) protects the inside. DK does a great job with his counter move going outside, but (Jobe) speed turns – that’s when you’re literally turning your back to the receiver and getting upfield as fast as you can. He speed turns, still squeezes him to the sideline and eliminates him.

“If you’re a (defensive back) or a DB coach, that is textbook. That is what you teach right there. The technique was flawless.”

Through two weeks, Jobe ranks eighth out of 97 cornerbacks in PFF grading.

Not bad for a former practice squad member.

“He had a tremendous game,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald told Brock and Salk on Monday. “Tough, physical, he played the ball well late in the down. He played a tremendous game. He really did. He deserves a lot of credit and I’m happy for him.

“All this guy does is work and attention to detail and prepare, and doesn’t have a lot to say for it, which is cool. That’s his personality, and he’s playing really good football right now.”
