The Seattle Mariners are the hottest team in baseball right now, riding a nine-game win streak that’s vaulted them atop the American League West and has them eyeing their first division title since 2001.

Before the M’s open a pivotal six-game road trip on Tuesday, let’s take a look at some numbers from Seattle’s red-hot September surge.
The big picture
• 24 – For the first time in 24 years, the Mariners hold sole possession of first place atop the AL West in the month of September. The last time they led the division this late in the season was during their record-setting 116-win campaign in 2001, which was also the last time they won the AL West crown.
• 9 – With nine straight victories, the Mariners’ current win streak is tied for the fifth-longest in franchise history. This marks the eighth time Seattle has had a win streak spanning at least nine games. The M’s won 15 straight in 2001, 14 straight in 2022 and 10 straight in both 2002 and 1996.
Home cookin’
• 23-6 – The Mariners are an MLB-best 23-6 at home since the All-Star break, including a perfect 7-0 homestand this past week. For the season, they are tied for the fourth-best home mark at 48-27.
Scorching offense
• 7.3 – The Mariners have averaged 7.3 runs per game during their nine-game win streak, which leads the majors over that span. They have scored 10-plus runs three times during that stretch, including an 18-run onslaught against the Atlanta Braves.

• 16 – The Mariners have clubbed 16 homers during their win streak, which ranks second in majors over that span. Nine different Mariners have homered during that stretch, led by three apiece from Cal Raleigh, Eugenio Suárez and Josh Naylor.
• .887 – The Mariners have an .887 OPS during their win streak, which also ranks second in the majors over that span. They also rank third in slugging percentage (.519), third in on-base percentage (.368) and fifth in batting average (.283) over that stretch.
• 9 – Jorge Polanco has an extra-base hit in nine consecutive games, which is tied for the second-longest such streak in franchise history. He’s one game away from matching Ken Griffey Jr.’s franchise record of 10 straight games with an extra-base hit, which was set in 1993. Polanco is batting a team-high .382 with 11 doubles and a homer over the past nine games.

• 13 – The Mariners have an MLB-leading 13 stolen bases over their nine-game win streak. Six different M’s have swiped at least one bag over that span, led by Naylor with four and Rodríguez and Randy Arozarena with three apiece.
Lights-out pitching
• 62 – The Mariners’ pitching staff totaled 62 strikeouts over their four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels this past weekend, which set an MLB record for the most punchouts over a four-game series.
• 14/0 – George Kirby racked up 14 strikeouts and no walks in Sunday’s win over the Angels, which marked the second time this season that he’s achieved that stat line. Kirby is the only MLB pitcher this season with two outings of at least 14-plus strikeouts and no walks. He’s also the only pitcher in franchise history to accomplish that feat twice in the same season.
• 1.94 – The Mariners have a 1.94 ERA over their nine-game win streak, which ranks second in the majors over that stretch. They also rank second in both WHIP (0.82) and strikeout rate (33.4%) over that span.
• 0.24 – The Mariners have an MLB-best 0.24 bullpen ERA during their win streak, having allowed only one earned run over their past 38 innings of relief. Even more impressive is that Seattle’s bullpen has done so despite a heavy workload, having logged the third-most innings over that stretch.
Chasing history
• 54 – And of course, this wouldn’t be complete without highlighting Raleigh’s historic season. The All-Star catcher blasted his 54th homer on Sunday, which tied him with Mickey Mantle for the most home runs by a switch-hitter in a single season in MLB history. Raleigh is now just two homers away from matching the single-season franchise home run record, which Griffey holds with 56.
