Report: Seahawks re-sign DT Jarran Reed to 3-year deal

Jarran Reed’s second run with the Seattle Seahawks is reportedly set to continue.

Reed is re-signing with the Seahawks on a three-year deal worth up to $25 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported late Sunday morning. The new deal keeps Reed in Seattle through the 2027 season. The veteran defensive tackle was set to hit free agency when the new league year begins on Wednesday.

Reed’s new deal is set to carry a $5 million cap hit in 2025, $7.5 million in 2026 and $9.5 million in 2027, per Over The Cap. With Sunday’s blockbuster trade that sent DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers also factored in, the Seahawks have just over $68.4 million in salary cap space available in 2025. However, that number does not include the three-year, $33 million deal linebacker Ernest Jones IV and the Seahawks reportedly agreed to Sunday.

The move helps solidify the Seahawks’ defensive line after veterans Dre’Mont Jones and Roy Robertson-Harris were released Tuesday in a move to free up salary cap space.

The 32-year-old Reed has had a big impact while being a key piece of the Seahawks’ defensive line rotation since returning to the franchise on a two-year in 2023.

Reed was second on the team with 48 pressures and had 45 tackles, five tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble while playing 60% of the defensive snaps last season. He ranked 21st among interior defensive linemen in Pro Football Focus grading.

Reed also had seven tackles for loss and seven sacks in 2023.

Reed was drafted in the the second round by the Seahawks in 2016 and spent his first five seasons in Seattle. He made one-year stops with the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers before returning to the Seahawks.

It was also reported Sunday by The Athletic’s Diana Russini that the Seahawks have lowered the asking price to a second-round pick for a trade involving star wide receiver DK Metcalf.
