Where is the potential future member of the Seahawks Ring of Honor heading next? Perhaps for a reunion with his former head coach.
Lockett was released by the Seahawks on Wednesday morning. The free agent negotiation period begins Monday with signings able to become official two days later when the new league year starts March 12. However, Lockett can sign with a team before then since he was released.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter called former Seattle coach Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders a “natural landing spot” for the veteran wide receiver.
“Lockett’s character always has matched his talents, and Carroll always has been a big supporter. Raiders also need WR help,” Schefter posted on social media.
Lockett played the first nine of his 10 seasons in Seattle under Carroll after being selected by the Seahawks in the third round out of Kansas State in 2015. During that span, Lockett produced four straight seasons with at least 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns receiving from 2019-22 and made three All-Pro teams as a return man.
Another potential landing spot is with former Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys. Schottenheimer, who was hired as the Cowboys’ head coach in February, was Lockett’s offensive coordinator for three seasons from 2018-20. Lockett had at least 965 yards and eight TDs receiving each season, including two campaigns with 10 TDs.
Cowboys insider and former ESPN reporter Ed Werder pointed out on social media that Dallas is looking for another receiver to to pair with star Ceedee Lamb. Dallas is also somewhat close to Lockett’s hometown of Tulsa, Okla.
Lockett leaves Seattle ranking second on the franchise leaderboard with 661 receptions, 8,594 receiving yards and 61 receiving touchdowns. He trails only Hall of Fame member Steve Largent in all three categories.
He had 49 receptions for 600 yards and two TDs last season, which were all his lowest totals since his third pro season in 2017.
The Seahawks saved $17 million in salary cap space for 2025 by releasing Lockett.
To a decade of leadership, poise, and authenticity.
