Bump: Who has been Seahawks’ best offensive player so far

Sep 27, 2022, 12:34 PM

The Seahawks have talent on the offensive side of the ball.

Huard: 3 positions the Seahawks could shake up soon

On the top of that list is 24-year-old wide receiver DK Metcalf, a one-time Pro Bowler who already has the franchise’s single-season record for receiving yards and signed a massive extension prior to this season.

Next up, you can point to another wide receiver, Tyler Lockett. The eight-year pro owns the single-season reception record for the Seahawks and is coming off three straight 1,000-yard seasons (and four in a row of at least 950 yards).

If we’re talking talent, we may as well throw running back Rashaad Penny in the mix, too. The 2018 first-round NFL Draft pick finally shook off injury enough to be the most productive back in the NFL down the stretch last season, rushing for 135 yards or more in four of Seattle’s last five contests.

So which of those players has been the Seahawks’ best through three weeks this season? None of them, according to former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus.

In the latest Seahawks breakdown video from the host of Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy, Hawks Live and the Seahawks radio pregame and postgame shows explains why the answer is actually quarterback Geno Smith.

The replacement for Russell Wilson under center for Seattle, Smith has been efficient thus far. And even though the Hawks lost in Week 3 action to the Falcons on Sunday, Smith had his best game yet, throwing 32 of 44 for 325 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception that didn’t come until a fourth-and-long play near the end of the game.
