The Mariners didn’t make it out of Sunday’s skirmish with the Angels completely unscathed.

Catcher Luis Torrens has been placed on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation, with fellow backstop Andrew Knapp being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take his place on the roster.

Torrens, 26, played all of Sunday’s game behind the plate even after being involved in the brawl that stemmed from two pitches thrown at Mariners batters in the first two innings by Angels pitcher Andrew Wantz. In 36 games this season, he is hitting .222 with two doubles, eight RBIs and eight walks. He has no home runs a season after hitting 15 in 108 games with the M’s.

The switch-hitting Knapp, 30, was a recent addition to the Mariners organization as a minor league free agent signing. The switch-hitter has 320 games of MLB experience since 2017 with the Phillies and Pirates, including 11 earlier this year with Pittsburgh. A second-round pick by Philadelphia in 2013, Knapp is hitting .198 with four homers, 11 RBIs and four walks in 22 games with Tacoma this year.

Knapp will slide into the role as the second option at catcher for the Mariners with Cal Raleigh having settled in as the primary starter this season.

This was the second roster move the Mariners made on Monday following their trade with Kansas City for veteran first baseman Carlos Santana, who is not expected to join the team until Tuesday.

The Mariners open up a new homestand at 7:10 p.m. Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles. Full coverage will be carried on Seattle Sports Station 710 AM, the flagship of the Mariners Radio Network, beginning with the pregame show at 6.
