The Seahawks have been quiet at wide receiver in free agency this offseason, but that changed Monday afternoon when they announced the signing of veteran wideout Marquise Goodwin.

With Seahawks betting on youth, LBs face steepest learning curve

Seattle confirmed the addition of Goodwin, which was reported Sunday, on the same day as an OTA practice session at team headquarters in Renton. The Seahawks had an open roster spot after waiving undrafted rookie quarterback Levi Lewis on Friday.

Goodwin, 31, appeared in 14 games with the Chicago Bears last season, starting two. He had 20 receptions on 40 targets for 313 yards and a touchdown. In Chicago’s win over the Seahawks at a snowy Lumen Field on Dec. 26, he had two catches for 23 yards.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Goodwin was a track star and competed in the 2020 Olympic Trials in the long jump.

Prior to his one year with the Bears in 2021, Goodwin spent three years with the San Francisco 49ers, and previously played four seasons with Buffalo, who drafted him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Texas. His best season in the NFL was 2017 with the 49ers when he had 56 receptions for 962 yards and two touchdowns. He sat out the 2020 season.

While Goodwin is the lone notable veteran addition at wide receiver for the Seahawks this offseason, Seattle did draft a pair of receivers – Rutgers’ Bo Melton and Lenoir-Rhyne’s Dareke Young, who were both taken in the seventh round. The Seahawks’ depth chart at the position is led by Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf and also includes Freddie Swain and Dee Eskridge.
