While Tarvaris Jackson ran much of the first-string offense at practice Tuesday, it will be Matt Flynn starting the next pre-season game Saturday night in Denver. Rookie Russell Wilson will play in the second half as he did last weekend against Tennessee.

Coach Pete Carroll told the media after practice this was his plan all along. Carroll admitted the situation is not easy on the veteran Jackson, but he’s remained professional about it. The coach would not say whether Jackson will get any playing time against the Broncos.

Highlights from today’s session in front of a good crowd at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton included two interceptions by free agent cornerback Phillip Adams. The South Carolina native picked off a Wilson pass which had been tipped by linebacker Korey Toomer. Adams also victimized Matt Flynn with a pick.

Kam Chancellor also had an interception on an ill-advised pass by Jackson into a crowded end zone.

Defensive lineman Jason Jones showed up twice during 11-on-11 drills, stuffing a Marshawn Lynch draw play, and nearly intercepting a Wilson screen pass to running back Kregg Lumpkin.

Braylon Edwards had the best catch at Tuesday’s practice, running a post-corner route on a ball thrown from Flynn. Edwards dragged both feet as he was leaning out of the end zone.

On the injury front, coach Carroll said right guard John Moffitt had his elbow surgery performed today. Doctors found floating material from an early injury. There is no timetable for Moffitt’s return.

Tight end Zach Miller has a mild concussion and will have to go through a series of tests before he is allowed to practice.

Carroll was pleased to see a full receiving core on the field today. Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette were both in contact drills after missing Saturday night’s game. Sidney Rice was not wearing the red jersey, which means he is cleared for full practice. Rice will not play in this weekend’s Denver game.

The coach says there’s a chance Terrell Owens will play against the Broncos. T.O. displayed his work ethic today when he ran pass routes on the sideline even when he wasn’t supposed to be on the field.

The wacky play of the day came near the end of practice when Wilson could not find any receivers open, so he threw the football into deep brush next to Lake Washington. We’re pleased to report one of the staff members found the ball before it became a floater!
