One of the more surprising Mariners of the 2020 season has been Dylan Moore, whose hot hitting has earned him regular playing time and a top spot in the lineup. But that will come to a pause for now as he was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a wrist sprain. Taking his place is outfield prospect Jake Fraley.

Moore, 27, played a lot for the Mariners in 2019, but that was mostly for his defensive flexibility as he played every defensive position except for catcher while hitting .229 in 113 games with nine home runs and 11 stolen bases.

But along with Kyle Lewis and Kyle Seager, Moore has been one of the more reliable members of the lineup in 2020, hitting .282 with five home runs and a team-leading six stolen bases in 21 games. He’s seen most of his time in the outfield and his hot hitting had him regularly hitting in the No. 2 spot behind shortstop J.P. Crawford and ahead of Lewis, the frontrunner for American League Rookie of the Year.

Moore was scheduled to start on Friday against the Rangers, but was scratched from the start due to the injured wrist.

Fraley, 25, is one of the Mariners’ top prospects (No. 10 on MLB Pipeline) after coming to Seattle from Tampa Bay in the trade that sent catcher Mike Zunino to the Rays. Fraley was one of the top hitters in the system in 2019, hitting .298 in 99 games between Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma. He hit 19 home runs and drove in 80 runs while stealing 22 bases.

Fraley made his MLB debut late in the year and played in 12 games before missing the rest of the year with a sprained thumb. He hit .150 with 14 strikeouts and one RBI with the Mariners. He has yet to appear in a game in 2020.

Fraley was competing for a roster spot with the MLB club at the team’s summer camp, but has been playing at the alternate training site since the beginning of the season.
