Reportedly unhappy with his contract, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is expected to skip next week’s mandatory minicamp.

According to ESPN.com’s Terry Blount, a source characterized it as “very, very unlikely” that Lynch shows up and that “he wants the Seahawks to renegotiate his current contract and provide him with more up-front money.”

Lynch, 28, is entering the third year of a four-year, $30 million deal he signed before the 2012 season that included $17 million guaranteed and a $6 million signing bonus.

The report of his plans to potentially skip Seattle’s minicamp is another surprsing development for a player whose off-the-field behavior has been defined by its unpredictability.

Lynch skipped the team’s honorary visit to the White House, his mother telling The Seattle Times that her son simply didn’t want to go. He hasn’t participated in Seattle’s organized team activites (OTAs), which are voluntary, and he was again absent for the final session on Thursday.

“He’s got his own thing going on,” said center Max Unger. “We’d love to have him, but by no means will it change my view of him.”

Unger went on to say that Lynch “has more than proved himself that he’s capable of coming to training camp in shape and I think he’s got his own training regiment going on.”

That was the case last year when Lynch sat out some of the OTAs then rushed for 1,257 yards, a total than ranked sixth in the NFL and marked his third consecutive season with at least 1,200 yards.

Seattle’s three-day mandatory minicamp running from June 17-19. Lynch would be subject to roughly $70,000 in fines for not attending.

Lynch is scheduled to make $5 million in base salary in 2014 and also has a $500,000 roster bonus included in this year’s compensation, according to the website Spotrac.com.
