The Seahawks’ 17-9 road victory over the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t just propel Seattle to a 9-2 record and keep them right in the thick of things in the NFC playoff picture.

It made history.

Seahawks 17, Eagles 9: Recap | 3 stars | 710 reacts | Rost on Wilson

Russell Wilson became the only quarterback in the entire history of the NFL to lead his team to a winning season in each of his first eight seasons, as the victory over Philadelphia pushed Seattle to a 9-2 record, ensuring the Seahawks will finish above .500 this season.

That’s right – the NFL is in its 100th season this year, and Wilson sits alone as the only quarterback to have a winning record in his first eight seasons. Sure, Patriots QB Tom Brady has 18 consecutive winning seasons to his credit, but he wasn’t the starter in his first season as a pro, unlike Wilson.

Since entering the league in 2012, Wilson has not only put up great statistics, he’s been a winner. He owns nearly every major Seahawks passing record, made the playoffs in six of his first seven seasons, and it looks like he’ll and Seattle will be back in the postseason this year. He was the quarterback for the only Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning team, and Seattle has won two NFC championships with Wilson under center.

And even with all that success, Wilson is having his best season this year.

Wilson has been sensational and is considered one of the two 2019 MVP favorites along with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. He threw one touchdown pass against Philadelphia, giving him 24 on the season, and he has also thrown just three interceptions in 11 games.

Wilson has played for only one head coach since entering the NFL: Pete Carroll. On Friday, Carroll joined 97.3 KIRO FM’s Dori Monson on the weekly Pete Carroll Show and said Wilson has been sensational throughout his eight-year career.

“That’s a great marker,” Carroll said about the possibility of Wilson’s record. “He’s had a career already of firsts where he’s just done things so well coming out of the chutes and all that to put up numbers and consistency and all that kind of stuff.”

Carroll attributes a lot of Wilson’s success to his personality.

“I think it’s just another statement about his makeup and the character and the competitor he is,” he said of his star quarterback. “He’s so consistently ‘Russ’ and he just continues to find ways to be that marvelous competitor that he is.”

With Sunday’s win, Wilson has 84 regular season wins in his career. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has the record for most wins in his first eight NFL seasons with 86, so Wilson has five games remaining to try and break that record.

Next up for Seattle is a Monday night showdown in Seattle against the Minnesota Vikings.
