The Mariners finished the 2015 MLB Draft in much the same way they started it – with a heavy focus on pitching.
Seattle selected 30 more players on Wednesday, 19 of whom are pitchers. So were the Mariners’ top two selections on Tuesday and four of the 10 players they chose on Wednesday. All told, 25 of the 40 players Seattle selected over the three-day draft are pitchers.
The full breakdown: 18 right-handers, seven left-handers, two catchers, four outfielders and nine infielders, including three first basemen, four shortstops and two third basemen.
Here are some more notes on Seattle’s 2015 draft class, via the team’s press release:
27 of the Mariners’ 40 picks and 10 of their first 13 were college players. The youngest of their 13 high-school picks is 17-year-old pitcher Jio Orozco from Tuscon, Ariz.
