LISTEN: What should the Seahawks look for in Kaepernick's workout?

Free agent Colin Kaepernick will make his case for the Seahawks’ backup quarterback spot during a workout Wednesday afternoon, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport tweeted that the team is bringing in Kaepernick and another quarterback, Austin Davis, for a visit. Coach Pete Carroll acknowledged last week on 710 ESPN Seattle with “Brock and Salk” that the Seahawks are considering several backup quarterback options, including Kaepernick. The team’s current backup, second-year undrafted free agent Trevone Boykin, ran into legal trouble this offseason following a car crash in Dallas.

O’Neil: Kaepernick’s availability shows politics at play in NFL

Davis is a 27-year-old career backup whose best season came with the Rams in 2014, when he passed for 2,001 yards, with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions over 10 games (eight starts). He started two games in 2015 for the Browns.

Michael Bennett recently endorsed the 29-year-old Kaepernick as a perfect fit for Seattle’s locker room and its offense. Seahawks teammates Cliff Avril, Doug Baldwin, Jeremy Lane and Bobby Wagner expressed some form of public support for Kaepernick’s social stances last season.

Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant last week wrote a letter urging Carroll and Seahawks owner Paul Allen to sign Kaepernick, in part because “In Seattle, we know our communities will only benefit from his activism as well as his talents on the field.”

In Wednesday’s “Blue 42” segment, Brock Huard discussed what the Seahawks should be looking for when they work out Kaepernick.
