LISTEN: Who will be the Seahawks' backup QB in 2017?

Seahawks backup quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested following a car crash early Monday morning in Dallas.

Boykin, 23, was the passenger in a car that drove into a bar in Uptown Dallas at about 2:10 a.m. Monday and was being held in Dallas County jail facing misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and public intoxication, according to court records. Bond was set at $500.

Dallas police said eight people were injured in the accident, including the bartender inside the club, Sidebar. Seven people were transported to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Boykin, sitting in the front passenger seat, was one of two people arrested, along with the 25-year-old female driver, who was arrested for two felony counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, serious bodily injury. Police said the investigation found the driver accelerated in reverse at a high rate of speed onto a public sidewalk, striking pedestrians and the side of the bar. The impact of the crash caused bottles of alcohol and a large ice cooler to fall and hit the bartender, according to police.

The Seahawks released a statement that read: “We are aware of the situation involving Trevone Boykin. We are still gathering information and are disappointed.”

Boykin is from the Dallas suburb of Mesquite. He served as Russell Wilson’s backup in 2016 after going undrafted following a star-studded career at Texas Christian University. He had a previous run-in with the law, being arrested for allegedly striking an officer during a bar fight his senior year at TCU, two days prior to the Alamo Bowl. In June of 2016, he pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of resisting arrest and received one year of probation.

Boykin signed a three-year deal with Seattle and appeared in five games his rookie season. He completed 13 of his 18 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown and an interception. His most meaningful playing time came in Week 3, when Wilson went down with a knee injury and Boykin had to finish the game.

Wilson and Boykin are the only quarterbacks on Seattle’s roster. In the “Blue 42” segment Monday, 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock Huard made the case for Seattle to sign Robert Griffin III to be Wilson’s backup.
