The Seahawks could be without linebacker K.J. Wright for the season opener against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 9.

O’Neil: What we learned from the Seahawks’ third preseason game

Head coach Pete Carroll said Wright will have his knee scoped Monday.

“After the game (against the Vikings) — he didn’t get hit or anything, didn’t have an episode — just felt like maybe something wasn’t quite right and we took a look at it,” Carroll said. “We’re going to do a scope job and get him back really quick.”

Asked whether that could mean missing the regular season opener, Carroll said he didn’t know.

Rookie Shaquem Griffin has been the primary backup behind Wright at weakside linebacker.

“At this point, today, he’s got to be ready (to fill in for Wright if needed),” Carroll said of the possibility Griffin could start Week 1.

The Seahawks had a few players banged up on defense coming out of their loss to the Vikings. Free safety Tedric Thompson is “day-to-day” with a rib injury and a stinger, while defensive end Frank Clark sat out practice with a hyper-extended elbow.

Doug Baldwin on track for Week 1

Carroll said wide receiver Doug Baldwin (knee) is still on track to return Week 1.

“He’s back in action,” Carroll said. “It’s really good to see him back out there running around and feeling great. He’s had a really good ramping up to get to this point and he’ll work the rest of the week with us. He won’t play (against the Raiders Thursday) but he’ll be ready to go next week.”

While it doesn’t sound as though defensive end Dion Jordan is facing the same timetable as Baldwin, Carroll indicated Jordan is also progressing in his recovery from an unspecified leg injury.

“He’s making progress right now. He’s trying to make a bid for getting back here next week. As we said a long time ago, it would be a race to that last week and that’s where it is right now. He’s doing a good job. He’s really chomping at the bit to get back to the field, and we’ll just have to see how it goes.”
