Leonys Martin was scratched from his scheduled rehab game Thursday night in Tacoma due to a soggy outfield at Cheney Stadium, and it’s yet to be determined if that will impact the Mariners’ plan to activate the center fielder from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.
“Not good and that wasn’t the plan,” manager Scott Servais said of Martin’s scratch. “He’ll head back to Seattle … and will get a workout in here at some point.”

Despite missing the rehab game, Servais said he would personally be OK with Martin coming off the DL as originally scheduled for Friday’s series opener against Texas. That doesn’t mean it will happen, though.
“I’m not hesitant,” Servais said. “We’ll talk to our doctors, see if everyone’s comfortable activating him tomorrow or not.”
Martin did get 10 at-bats Wednesday as part of a simulated game, and Servais said seeing him in the outfield was the primary focus of his planned start in Tacoma.
Notes
• The Mariners have made a change with their projected starting pitchers. With James Paxton having joined fellow lefty Wade Miley in the rotation, the team has decided to split up the southpaws rather than keep throwing them on back-to-back days. As a result, Hisashi Iwakuma, scheduled to start Friday, will have his subsequent start pushed back to next Friday, June 17 in the series opener at Boston. Paxton will pitch Thursday at Tampa Bay, while Miley will go Saturday. Seattle is afforded the opportunity to make the change with an off day Monday.
• Outfielder Kyle Lewis out of Mercer College was the Mariners’ first-round selection in the MLB Draft Thursday, taken No. 11 overall. You can read about the 6-foot-4, 205-pound power hitter here.
