Danny O’Neil hosted a live Seahawks chat on Tuesday as “Hawk Talk” continues into the offseason. Here’s the transcript. Highlights are below.
MmmmYesQuite asked if K.J. Wright or Bobby Wagner is the better linebacker.
Danny O’Neil: I believe that Wright is the more complete linebacker. I think that he’s the best linebacker Seattle has in dropping into coverage. I think Wagner – athletically – is the best linebacker, but there are times in his pursuit where doesn’t come up and force the issue.
Tom Page asked which players will be the beneficiary of more snaps considering the Seahawks are expected to play more nickel and dime coverage.
Danny O’Neil: I believe Richard Sherman will be isolated against specific receivers more often. I think that Brandon Browner will have a role created for him, and if Tharold Simon stays healthy, I think that these packages would put him in position to shine without exposing his difficulty in changing direction.
BH asked where Danny sees offensive lineman Justin Britt in three years.
Danny O’Neil: Somewhere other than Seattle. I probably shouldn’t be that flippant, but first of all, we have yet to see the Seahawks re-sign any linemen which they have drafted since Pete Carroll and John Schneider arrived six years ago. The second component is that he’s now being tried at his third different position.
jenkins asked what rookie wide receiver Kenny Lawler’s ceiling is.
Danny O’Neil: Well, he’s like 6-4 with great hands. The ceiling is really tall for him. Flip side of that is we’re going to have a ton of durability questions.
jenkins inquired about rookie Joey Hunt being the starter at center this season.
Danny O’Neil: Yes, I think him starting is a possibility. I also think that if he starts, he will be the smallest starting offensive lineman I’ve seen start for the Seahawks in the time I’ve covered the team.
DaddyDennis asked which rookie Danny is most looking forward to interviewing.
Danny O’Neil: Alex Collins has an incredibly lively personality. Ditto for Germain Ifedi, though that tends to get drilled out of the offensive linemen because of the peer pressure in their linemen room.
