World Cup: Teams set for first knockout match in Seattle

Belgium and Senegal will square off in the first knockout round match of the World Cup at Seattle Stadium at 1 p.m. on July 1.

The Belgians advanced to the round of 32 by taking the top spot in Group G with five points (1-0-2 record). They played Egypt to a 1-1 draw and Iran to a scoreless draw, and won their final group play game against New Zealand 5-1. This will be Belgium’s second time playing in Seattle during the tournament.

Senegal, which on Saturday found out it would be playing its round of 32 match in Seattle, took third in Group I with three points (1-2-0 record). It fell to France 3-1 and Norway 3-2 in its first two matches but was able to punch its ticket to the knockout round with a 5-0 rout of Iraq on Friday.

The matchup between Belgium and Senegal will be televised on FS1.

The winner will remain in Seattle for a round 16 matchup at 5 p.m. Monday, July 6, which could end up being against the U.S.

The Americans finished atop the Group D standings with six points (2-1-0) record and will face Bosnia and Hezegovina in the knockout round on 5 p.m. Wednesday at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. The winner advances to the round of 16 match in Seattle.

The U.S. beat Australia 2-0 on July 19 in its first-ever World Cup match in Seattle.
