Landon DuPont, the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, is leaving the WHL’s Everett Silvertips to play at the University of Michigan.
The 17-year-old DuPont announced Wednesday on his Instagram that he has committed to play for the Wolverines next season.

DuPont, a 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman, has spent the past two seasons with Everett after being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft. He was just 14 years old when he was drafted and turned 15 before the start of the 2024-25 season.
DuPont was just the second player ever to be granted Exceptional Player Status by the WHL, which allows skilled, underage players to compete in the league at 15 years old. Players typically aren’t eligible to play in the WHL until the season of their 16th birthday.
The only other player granted Exceptional Player Status by the WHL is Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and winner of the 2023-24 Calder Memorial Trophy.
A Calgary, Alberta, native, DuPont helped lead Everett to its first WHL championship and a runner-up finish in its first-ever appearance at the prestigious Memorial Cup this past season. He tallied 18 goals and 55 assists in 63 regular season games and added five goals and 18 assists in 18 playoff matchups.
He won the WHL Rookie of the Year in 2024-25, posting 17 goals and 43 assists over 64 regular season games.
DuPont, the son of former NHL defenseman Micki DuPont, is the top-ranked prospect for the 2027 NHL Draft, according to Elite Prospects.
