Path to Little League World Series title still alive for Bonney Lake/Sumner

The Bonney Lake/Sumner team representing the Northwest region in the Little League World Series remains alive – with a path to the title – after its first two games.

Bonney Lake/Sumner bounced back from a 5-3 loss to the Mountain region team from Las Vegas in its opener last Friday, hanging on to beat New England (Braintree, Mass.) by a score of 3-2 in an elimination game Sunday.

What would it take for Bonney Lake/Sumner to reach the finals?

In the double-elimination tournament, the team from Washington state can’t afford another loss. So it would mean first winning a 7 p.m. game Tuesday night against the loser of Monday night’s game between the Metro (Fairfield, Conn.) and Midwest (Sioux Falls, S.D.) teams.

If Bonney Lake/Sumner can keep going, the path to the title would mean going through a United States quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday night, a semifinal game on Thursday night, and the U.S. championship game on Saturday afternoon. Finally, the Little League World Series championship (as well as a consolation game) will be played Sunday.
