Salk: The 3 Seattle Kraken players to watch this season

The Kraken announced Thursday afternoon that they have made a trade, swapping 22-year-old minor leaguers with the Philadelphia Flyers. Seattle gets winger Devin Kaplan, while center David Goyette goes to Philly.

A native of New Jersey, Kaplan was a third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft out of Boston University by the Flyers. He signed with Philadelphia in April 2025 and made his NHL debut two days later, playing just over 12 minutes in what is his only NHL game to date.

In his first full pro season in 2025-26, the 6-foot-2, 199-pound Kaplan amassed 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 49 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL.

Goyette, who checks in at 5-10 and 172 pounds, was a second-round pick by the Kraken in the 2022 NHL Draft out of the OHL. He has played in each of the past four seasons for the Kraken’s AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, and had 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 51 games last season.

Kaplan is likely to join the Firebirds, who open the AHL season on Friday.

The Kraken are set to open their 84-game NHL slate at 6 p.m. Thursday night on the road against the Calgary Flames.
