Seattle Kraken get top goalie back from IR, but lose another to injury

There’s good and bad news on the goalie front for the Seattle Kraken.

The good news: Seattle’s top goaltender, Joey Daccord, has been activated from injured reserve ahead of a four-game road trip that begins Tuesday in Detroit.

The bad news: Matt Murray, another Kraken goalie, will miss approximately six weeks with a lower-body injury.

The Kraken shared the updates on both Daccord and Murray on social media Tuesday morning.

Daccord, 29, has been with the Kraken since their inaugural 2021-22 season. He established himself as Seattle’s top goalie in 2023-24 with a 19-18-11 record in 50 games (46 starts), posting a 2.46 goals against average and .916 save percentage. Last year, he was 27-23-5 in 57 games (55 starts) with a 2.75 goals against average and .906 save percentage.

In 11 games this season, Daccord is 6-2-3 in 11 games (all starts) with a 2.83 goals against average and .900 save percentage.

Daccord has been out of action since suffering an upper-body injury on Nov. 5.

Murray, an offseason signing in free agency, has played well as part of a three-goalie rotation for the Kraken this season. The 31 year old has a 2.21 goals against average and .922 save percentage in five games (four starts).

Murray played the previous two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also spent two seasons with the Ottawa Senators after starting his NHL career with five seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Kraken turned to Philipp Grubauer in net in a win Saturday over the San Jose Sharks after Murray suffered his injury late in the first period. Grubauer has been strong in Daccord’s absence, earning the win in each of his three appearances in November.

Seattle entered Tuesday third in the Pacific Division with a 9-4-5 record for 23 points in the standings, two back of the first-place Anaheim Ducks.
