Luke Willson was one of only two rookies who routinely saw meaningful playing time with the Seahawks last season.

That wasn’t necessarily the plan when Seattle chose the tight end out of Rice in the fifth round.

While the Seahawks had identified Willson as one player they were determined to come out of the draft with, Anthony McCoy was coming off a promising 2012 season as Seattle’s No. 2 tight end behind Zach Miller. McCoy was expected to fill that role again until he suffered an Achilles injury during organized team activities, forcing him to miss all of 2013 and bumping Willson one spot up the depth chart.

Willson caught 20 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown during the regular season, occasionally showing the down-field speed that had made him so enticing to Seattle.

Now, McCoy is back in the fold after signing a one-year, $1.35 million contract, and the fact that it’s a guaranteed deal suggests Seattle expects him to be healthy enough to make a significant contribution in 2014.

So where does that leave Willson? Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby discuss their expectations in the video above.
