Former Seahawks star set to announce their 2nd-round draft pick

The Seattle Seahawks will turn to a star member of the vaunted defense behind the team’s first Super Bowl championship to help them out in next week’s NFL Draft.

Former Pro Bowl defensive end Cliff Avril is the Seahawks’ choice to reveal their second-round pick. This is according to a list posted by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter of the former and current players that will announce the 36 second-round picks on Friday, April 24, which is Day 2 of the draft. The Seahawks own the No. 64 overall pick in the second round.

The 2026 NFL Draft will take place in Pittsburgh starting with the first round at 5 p.m. next Thursday, followed by the second and third round starting at 4 p.m. Friday, and then the remaining four rounds starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Avril played the final five seasons of his 10-year NFL career with the Seahawks after signing with the team in free agency. He had eight sacks in the 2013 regular season, his first with the team, and had a tackle for loss, two QB hits, two passes defensed and a safety in Seattle’s Super Bowl win over the Denver Broncos to cap off that season. Avril had a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2016 to earn Pro Bowl honors in what was his second-to-last season in the NFL.

Avril was picked in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Purdue by the Detroit Lions.

Another former Seahawks standout, wide receiver Deion Branch, will announce a second-round pick for the team Seattle beat in the most recent Super Bowl, the New England Patriots. Branch spent 4 1/2 seasons with Seattle in between two stints with the Patriots during his 11-year NFL career.

Spokane product and former WSU Cougars star Mark Rypien is set to announce the second-round pick for the Washington franchise that he quarterbacked to a Super Bowl title at the end of the 1991 season.
