Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is dealing with a “unique” soft-tissue injury in his glute that is considered a “short-term” injury, according to a report Monday from the team’s website.

It was initially feared that Darnold endured a hip injury, but his hip joint was unaffected.
There is no firm timeline on when Darnold will return.
Darnold was injured when he was sacked on the Seahawks’ first drive of their season opener last Wednesday against the New England Patriots and did not return to the game.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider told The Pat McAfee show last Thursday that Darnold’s injury required an off-site assessment at a local hospital.
NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Darnold will miss this Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and could miss more time after, though the Seahawks have yet to officially rule Darnold out. The team won’t release its first injury report for Week 2 until Wednesday.
If Darnold misses Sunday’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals as expected, Drew Lock would be in line to be starter. Lock completed 16-of-22 passes for 187 yards and one TD in relief of Darnold while helping the Seahawks’ rally to a 13-10 win over the New England Patriots in Week 1.
