Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October.

How Seahawks can take advantage of Commanders’ defense

The honor comes during a torrid start to the season for Smith-Njigba, who has 50 receptions for a league-high 819 yards and four touchdowns through Seattle’s first seven games.

Smith-Njigba played just three games in October, due to the Seahawks having a bye last week. But the 2023 first-round pick put up monster numbers in those three games, totaling 24 catches for 417 yards and three touchdowns – including a season-high 162 yards and a TD in a Week 6 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 12.

In October, Smith-Njigba has recorded three straight games with both 120-plus receiving yards and at least one touchdown catch. He’s just the 21st player in NFL history to achieve that feat, according to Stathead. The NFL record is four straight games, which has been achieved four times.

Smith-Njigba’s 819 receiving yards are tied for the eighth-most in NFL history through the first seven games of a season, per Stathead. That shatters the previous franchise-best mark, which was held by DK Metcalf with 680 yards through the first seven games of 2020.

Smith-Njigba is on pace to finish with 1,989 receiving yards this season. That would break the NFL single-season receiving record set by Detroit’s Calvin Johnson, who had 1,964 receiving yards in 2012. The caveat is that Johnson did that in a 16-game season. The NFL moved to a 17-game season in 2021.

Smith-Njigba is the first Seahawks player to be named NFC Offensive Player of the Month since quarterback Geno Smith in October 2022. Last season, defensive lineman Leonard Williams was the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December/January.
