Seahawks add fullback who played linebacker at WSU and Auburn

The Seattle Seahawks signed former WSU Cougars linebacker Wesley Steiner to their 90-man roster on Thursday with the intention of converting him to fullback.

The 6-foot, 235-pound Steiner spent three college seasons at Auburn before transferring to Washington State for his senior season last fall. He primarily played on special teams for the Cougars, logging five special teams tackles.
Steiner went undrafted out of WSU and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as a linebacker in May before getting waived later that month.
Steiner is new to playing fullback, but has some intriguing athletic traits. He ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at Auburn’s pro day this spring, while also posting a 39-inch vertical leap and an 11-foot-3-inch broad jump.
Steiner gives the Seahawks another fullback option behind rookie fifth-round pick Robbie Ouzts and third-year pro Brady Russell. Ouzts is the expected starter at fullback, while Russell has been splitting time at tight end and fullback.
Linebacker Michael Dowell, who spent time on Seattle’s practice squad last year, was waived to make room on the 90-man roster.
