Seahawks draft Colorado State WR Tory Horton in fifth round

The Seattle Seahawks added to their wide receiver room and potentially found their next punt returner in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

With the 166th overall pick, the Seahawks selected Colorado State wide receiver Tory Horton on Saturday.

Horton had a highly productive five-year college career in the Mountain West Conference. In 51 games, he totaled 265 catches for 3,615 yards and 27 TDs.

After spending his first two seasons at Nevada, Horton broke out during the 2022 season with Colorado State. The 6-foot-3, 196-pound receiver hauled in 71 receptions for a Mountain West-high 1,131 yards and eight TDs. He finished 12th in the country in receiving yards and was an All-Mountain West first-teamer.

Horton, 22, earned first-team honors again the following year, totaling 96 receptions for 1,136 yards and eight TDs. His 96 receptions led the conference and were fifth in the country.

Horton also excelled as a punt returner for the Rams. He returned one punt for a touchdown in each of his three seasons in Fort Collins. Horton averaged 16.3 yards on 26 career returns at Colorado State.

However, Horton suffered an undisclosed knee injury last October that caused him to miss the Rams’ final seven games. He underwent surgery on the knee and was able to participate in the scouting combine.

Along with his 6-foot-2 frame, Horton possess speed the Seahawks’ receiving room is lacking. He ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the combine. He also posed a 37 1/2-inch mark in the vertical jump.

Horton was projected as a fourth-round pick by NFL.com.

The selection of Horton came after a whirlwind of Seahawks trades early on the third day of the draft. The Seahawks started the day with pick No. 137 in the fourth round, but traded it to New England for picks Nos. 144 and 238. Seattle then traded the 144th overall selection to Cleveland for the 166th and 192nd picks. The Seahawks also traded the 172nd pick and backup quarterback Sam Howell to Minnesota for the 142nd pick, which turned into Notre Dame defensive tackle Rylie Mills.

Horton joins a Seahawks draft class that also includes first-rounder guard Grey Zabel, second-rounders safety Nick Emmanwori and tight end Elijah Arroyo, and third-rounder quarterback Jalen Milroe.
