Seattle also signed linebacker Power Echols and wide receiver Julian Hicks. To make room on their 90-man roster, the Seahawks placed veteran cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles on injured reserve and waived running backs T.J. Harden and Justin Jones.
Hankerson compiled back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing campaigns at Oregon State in 2024 and 2025. He totaled 2,168 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns over his two seasons with the Beavers, while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted rookie in May, but was waived last week.
Hankerson provides depth for the Seahawks’ banged-up running back room. Rookie first-round draft pick Jadarian Price, Emanuel Wilson and Jacardia Wright were each sidelined for Seattle’s preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night, while Zach Charbonnet remains on the physically unable to perform list as he rehabs from a torn ACL.
Echols, who went undrafted out of North Carolina in 2025, was briefly with the Seahawks earlier in training camp. He spent his rookie season on the Chicago Bears’ and Houston Texans’ practice squads.
Hicks, who went undrafted out FCS-level Albany in 2024, spent his rookie season on the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad. He also spent 2025 training camp and preseason with the Packers before he was waived.
Jean-Charles had a rough performance in Seattle’s preseason opener. When targeted in coverage, the fifth-year cornerback gave up four catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, according to Pro Football Focus.
