J.R. Sweezy: Seahawks’ offensive linemen ‘getting on the same page’

It hasn’t always been pretty to start the season, but J.R. Sweezy believes the Seahawks’ offensive line is definitely improving.

“It took us a little bit to get going, and I think everybody noticed that and knows that, but … every week we continue to get better,” Sweezy said Friday on 710 ESPN’s “Danny, Dave and Moore.” “We are having better practices, our cohesion is a lot better, everybody is getting on the same page. It’s just exciting to come to work every day and get better.”

Sweezy plays guard on Seattle’s re-tooled offensive line that was heavily criticized during the team’s 0-2 start. With Marshawn Lynch out for Monday’s showdown with Detroit, the group will need to continue opening holes for rookie Thomas Rawls, who broke free for 104 yards on 16 carries in the team’s Week 3 win against Chicago. Much of those yards came in the Seahawks’ dominating second half.

“The second half of that ballgame, we finally played our style of offense so it was really encouraging and I think everybody felt it, like, ‘Oh, that’s who we are, that’s how it’s supposed to feel,'” Sweezy said. “And it was just good to feel it and to grow from it and to continue to get better from it.”

Despite the relative inexperience on the line, Sweezy agreed with offensive line coach Tom Cable, who said earlier in the week it was the best group he had ever coached.

“The guys we have, the starting five, we’re different than any O-line in the league, in my opinion,” he said. “The way we play, the way we can run, the way we play on the second and third level, it’s pretty cool and it’s something unique about us.”

As the Seattle Seahawks work to improve their offensive line under the guidance of J.R.
