DK Metcalf, Geno Smith share farewells to Seattle Seahawks fans

The Seattle Seahawks are entering a new chapter in their franchise history after trades that sent two multi-time Pro Bowl players elsewhere in the NFL.

Quarterback Geno Smith was traded in a move first reported last Friday to the Las Vegas Raiders, where he reunites with his former head coach in Seattle, Pete Carroll.

Two days later, news broke that wide receiver DK Metcalf was being dealt to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Seahawks announced the trade of Smith on Thursday, while the Metcalf move had yet to be made official as of Thursday afternoon. Both players have since commented on the end of their time in Seattle.

Metcalf first shared a message on his Instagram account Wednesday night to say farewell to the 12s, the nickname for Seahawks fans.

Smith followed with a shorter message on social media Thursday after the Seahawks shared a video commemorating his successful tenure with the team that also thanked the city.

Thank you for taking a kid from Mississippi and making him feel at home in the Pacific Northwest. From the city to the organization to the 12s — you’ve been more than just a fanbase. You’ve been family. You’ve given me so much, including the chance to play the game I love alongside some incredible men who will forever be my brothers.

To my teammates — you’ve pushed me, believed in me, and let me be me both on and off the field.

To the staff — the ones behind the scene who make this run, y’all are the real MVPs. You made every day special, and I can’t thank you enough.

And to the 12s… man, y’all are different. The energy, the passion, the love — I felt it every single time I stepped on that field. Words can’t express how much I appreciate the way you embraced me from day one. It’s never easy to say goodbye, and leaving this city that took a chance on me 6 years ago is tough. But this isn’t the end — it’s just the next chapter. No matter where I go, I’ll always carry the 206 with me.
