Bright Future: Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks could ‘keep winning these’

Lawrence spent the first 11 years of his decorated NFL career toiling in the football purgatory that is being a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas won plenty of games and five NFC East titles during his tenure, but when they reached the postseason, they could never make it past the divisional round.

Shortly after Lawrence signed a three-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks last offseason, the former All-Pro defensive end went viral for his explanation as to why he left the only pro team he’d ever known for a fresh start in the Pacific Northwest.

“A change of scenery is always good, but Dallas is my home,” Lawrence told Brian Nemhauser (aka Hawk Blogger) during an interview. “I made my home there, my family lives there, I’m forever gonna be there. But I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there.”

That response didn’t sit well with Lawrence’s former Cowboys teammates.

Star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who was later traded by Dallas to the Green Bay Packers, called out Lawrence on social media.

“This what rejection and envy look like!” Parsons wrote. “This some clown (expletive)!”

Lawrence quickly fired back.

“Calling me a clown won’t change the fact that I told the truth,” he wrote. “Maybe if you spent less time tweeting and more time winning, I wouldn’t have left.”

Ouch.

But Parsons wasn’t the only Cowboys star to disagree with Lawrence. Dez Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who played in Dallas from 2010-17, went to social media two weeks ago to share a text exchange he had with Lawrence last March.

In the exchange, Bryant doubted Lawrence’s choice and the Seahawks’ ability to reach a Super Bowl (largely because of quarterback Sam Darnold). He told Lawrence if the Seahawks did reach the Super Bowl, he’d buy Lawrence a Rolex for doubting him.

After the Seahawks won the Lombardi Trophy with a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday, Bryant indicated he’ll be following through on that wager.

“I got to buy my dawg a Rolex,” Bryant wrote on social media.
