Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Byron Murphy II had a second-year breakout last season with 7.0 sacks, which was tied for the third-most among all defensive tackles in the NFL.

Two Takes: Should Seattle Seahawks extend Derick Hall?

Could Murphy took another step forward and reach double-digit sacks this fall? That question was posed during Tuesday’s “Buy or Sell” segment on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk.

Mike Salk and former NFL quarterback Brock Huard both sold that idea, due to how deep and well-balanced the Seahawks’ pass rush is in Mike Macdonald’s scheme.

“I’m gonna sell that,” Salk said. “Love me some Byron Murphy, and it’s not any sign of disrespect to think that a large run-stuffing defensive tackle doesn’t get to double-digit sacks. I just think there’s so many other guys (on Seattle’s defense). … It’s not one guy.”

During their Super Bowl run this past season, the Seahawks’ top-ranked scoring defense tied for seventh in the NFL with 47 sacks. However, those sacks were widely dispersed. Murphy, Leonard Williams and Uchenna Nwosu tied for the team lead with 7.0 sacks, DeMarcus Lawrence added 6.0 sacks and six other players chipped in at least 2.0 sacks.

And that doesn’t include 2025 draft pick Rylie Mills, who’s expected to take on a much larger role this fall after missing most of last season while recovering from a torn ACL.

“This (defense) isn’t one guy hitting 60 home runs,” Huard said. “It’s not one guy that’s getting set up and one guy that you’re creating one on ones for. They all get to eat, and it’s the beauty of it and why they did what they did a year ago. It was the volume of all of those guys, the unselfishness of all of those guys.”
