Brock: Seahawks may host Cowboys in joint practice

After going more than three decades without taking part in a joint practice, the Seattle Seahawks have done so each of the past two seasons under head coach Mike Macdonald.

In 2024, the Seahawks held a pair of joint practices with the Tennessee Titans in Nashville ahead of the teams’ preseason game. And in 2025, the Seahawks and Green Bay Packers held a joint practice at the Packers’ facility ahead of the teams’ preseason matchup.

Will the Seahawks continue the trend in 2026?

According to former NFL quarterback Brock Huard, the Seahawks could host the Dallas Cowboys for a joint practice in August at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton. The Seahawks are already slated to host the Cowboys in their Aug. 15 preseason opener at Lumen Field.

Huard dropped the nugget of a potential Seahawks-Cowboys joint practice during Tuesday’s Blue 88 segment on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk.

“From what I understand and the conversations I’m having, they are really, really attempting to make that work,” Huard said. “And that would be so awesome for the fans, the experience. I’ve gotten to see that in the Denver market. The Broncos have been able to do (joint practices) and get opponents to come in. It’s really cool.

“And in many ways, the intensity of those couple practices are better than the preseason game, because they’re getting after it, because it’s ones on ones. That red zone and that high red zone last year in (Green Bay), that was the first coming-out party of … JSN and Sam Darnold. That was kind of the first little appetizer and vision of what could be and what was to come.

“I think the Seahawks will do their darndest. And we know the Cowboys, they like to do joint practices anyway. And I think you’re going to see that.”

The Seahawks are making their debut on HBO’s long-running “Hard Knocks” documentary series during training camp this summer, which means a potential Seahawks-Cowboys joint practice would presumably be featured on the series.

Huard joked that could help divert some of HBO’s attention away from the Seahawks and toward the Cowboys and their spotlight-loving owner Jerry Jones.

“You know what?” Huard said. “Maybe it’s an opportunity for the Seahawks and (general manager John Schneider) and Mike to be like, enough cameras on us. Go get it on Jerry. Jerry will go talk to you. They can do the whole ‘Hard Knocks’ episode. Go focus on them and get the focus off us.”
