The college football season will get off to a different kind of start in the state of Washington this year, as the annual Apple Cup rivalry game between the WSU Cougars and No. 17 UW Huskies will open the 2026 slate for both teams this Sunday.

As some CFB rivalries take a hit, an earlier Apple Cup is on deck

This will be the third Apple Cup since the Huskies left the Pac-12 for the Big Ten, making it a non-conference tilt. While the previous two meetings between the Cougs and Huskies were also early-season games, this is the first time the Apple Cup – which was traditionally a Thanksgiving weekend tradition – has ever opened the season in the series history that dates back to 1900.

This version of the Apple Cup also gets a prime spot on the sports calendar, airing on free national TV on the last Sunday afternoon before the NFL returns.

Here’s a look at some key information for Sunday’s game, including the TV and radio broadcasts, the uniform matchup and what will be up next for both the Cougs and Dawgs.
