UW Huskies just shy of top 25 in latest AP college football poll

The UW Huskies will have to wait at least another week to crack the top 25 after falling just three spots shy of making the list in the latest Associated Press college football poll, which was released Sunday morning.

The Huskies earned their first win over a top-25 squad this season on Saturday, beating 23rd-ranked Illinois 42-25 at Husky Stadium to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in Big Ten play.

Wide receiver Denzel Boston paced the Huskies with a career day against the Fighting Illini. The junior posted career highs with 10 receptions for 153 yards, caught a TD pass and threw a TD pass in the win. Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns, while running back Jonah Coleman added a TD rushing and receiving.

The Huskies received 46 points in the latest rankings – 84 points behind 25th-ranked Memphis. The Illinois squad UW beat dropped out of the rankings and received three points.

Next up for the Huskies is a bye week followed by a Nov. 8 matchup at the 0-5 Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin has scored just seven points over its past three games.

The Big Ten has five teams in the top 25, led by top-ranked Ohio State and second-ranked Indiana. Michigan was the conference’s biggest riser this week, moving up four spots to No. 21 overall. USC also broke into the rankings at No. 23.

The conference is tied with the Big 12 for the second-most teams in the top 25. The SEC leads with nine.
