Agent drops Demond Williams Jr., cites ‘philosophical differences’

The latest turn in the Demond Williams Jr. saga has seen the UW Huskies star quarterback get dropped by his agent.

Wasserman Football president Doug Hendrickson announced Thursday morning on Instagram that he’s cutting ties with Williams, who made headlines Tuesday night by announcing he was entering the transfer portal just four days after reportedly signing a contract to return to UW for the 2026 season.

“I have made the decision to end my representation of Demond Williams Jr. effective immediately due to philosophical differences,” reads the statement from Hendrickson. “Demond is an incredible talent and we wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors.”

Hendrickson notably also is UW head coach Jedd Fisch’s agent.

Shortly after Hendrickson’s announcement, attorney Darren Heitner posted on social media that he’s been retained as legal counsel for Williams.

Williams’ decision has sent shockwaves through the college sports world as a potential test case over the viability of signed contracts.

According to a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger on Tuesday night, UW officials suspect that another school contacted Williams after he signed a “legally binding revenue-share contract” with UW. That contract, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, was in the mid-$4 million range and put Williams near the top the market for college football.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported that UW is “prepared to pursue legal action to enforce the terms of the contract” and that this dispute “could lead to a messy debate over the circumstances surrounding Williams’ status.”

In his first year as a full-time starter this past fall, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Williams put his electrifying dual-threat skill set on display while leading the Huskies to a 9-4 record. The talented sophomore completed 69.5% of his passes for 3,065 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while also running for 611 yards and six TDs.

Williams is expected to be one of college football’s top quarterbacks in 2026.
