The 2025 NFL Draft is in the book, and it included a number of players with local ties here in Washington state.

It was an unusually light year for the local colleges, though.

Just one player each from the WSU Cougars and UW Huskies had their names called during the three-day event, which emanated this year from Green Bay, Wis. You could count a second for WSU, however, and it would be a big one. Former Cougs quarterback Cam Ward, who finished his career at Miami, was the No. 1 overall pick, going to the Tennessee Titans.

There were also a few players who grew up in the Puget Sound area who were picked, including a pair of first-rounders.

Carson Bruener, LB, Redmond High School and UW Huskies

Drafted by Pittsburgh Steelers (226th overall)

Bruener, a Woodinville native, goes to the same Steelers franchise that drafted his father, Mark Bruener, in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft. Mark Bruener was a tight end who played 14 years in the NFL, including nine with Pittsburgh.
