Gonzaga beats San Francisco 95-75, earns trip to WCC semis

Ben Gregg scored 23 points, Ryan Nembhard recorded his second straight 15-assist game and Gonzaga routed San Francisco 95-75 to claim the WCC's No. 2 seed.

SAN FRANCISCO – Ben Gregg scored 23 points, Ryan Nembhard recorded his second straight 15-assist game and Gonzaga cruised past San Francisco 95-75 on Saturday night to earn the No. 2 seed for the West Coast Conference Tournament.

Nembhard continued to climb the NCAA record books, becoming just the 15th Division I player since 1973-74 to reach 310 assists in a season. He also became the first player since 2011 to post back-to-back games with at least 15 assists.

Gregg finished one point shy of his career high and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Gonzaga (23-8, 14-4 WCC), which secured a trip to the WCC Tournament semifinals by locking up one of the conference’s top two seeds. Nolan Hickman added 17 points, Graham Ike had 15 points and Khalif Battle scored 14 for the Zags.

Gonzaga went 11 of 24 from 3-point range, led by three 3s apiece from Gregg and Battle. The Zags built a 46-31 halftime lead and led by as many as 24 points late in the second half.

Marcus Williams scored 28 points to lead San Francisco (23-8, 13-5), which will head to the WCC Tournament quarterfinals as the conference’s No. 3 seed. Malik Thomas added 13 points and Tyrone Riley IV had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Dons. San Francisco shot just 3 of 18 from beyond the arc.

Gonzaga has beaten San Francisco 32 straight times dating back to 2012.
