Watch: M’s rookie Cole Young hits 1st career HR at Yankee Stadium

The wait was likely much longer than he wanted, but Seattle Mariners rookie Cole Young finally got on the board with his first MLB home run. And he got to do it at a stadium many in MLB grew up dreaming of playing in.

Young, ranked as the Seattle’s No. 3 prospect and No. 34 in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline, hit a two-run shot during the top of the seventh inning in the Mariners’ game against the New York Yankees on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

The rookie’s first career home run came off a curveball just below the zone from New York reliever Jonathan Loáisiga. He pulled it 361 feet with a 96.9-mph exit velocity into the seats in right field to cut the Mariners’ deficit to 9-6, which held up as the final score.

Young took advantage of the short porch in right field at Yankee Stadium. According to Statcast, it would have been a home run in only one other park: George M. Steinbrenner Field, which has the same dimensions as Yankee Stadium and is the Yankees’ spring training facility. The field is being used by the Tampa Bay Rays this season due to damages to Tropicana Field from Hurricane Milton.

The home run came in Young’s 32nd career game and 115th plate appearance. It was just his fifth extra-base hit since being promoted to the big leagues May 31.

Young, a first-round pick in the 2022 draft, is slashing .234/.278/.299 with four doubles, home run and nine RBIs with the Mariners. He posted a .277/.392/.461 slash line with 13 doubles, five triples, five home runs and 26 RBIs in 54 games with Triple-A Tacoma before being promoted.
