Video: Mariners hitting prospects take hacks in batting practice
A group of Mariners prospects, including D.J. Peterson, took their turns hitting Friday in coach pitch batting practice in Peoria.
A group of prospects hit against new Mariners starter J.A. Happ when the lefty faced live hitters for the first time this spring on Friday afternoon. The hitters were Patrick Kivlehan, D.J. Peterson, Jordy Lara and Ketel Marte, with Marte being the only one with a hit off of Happ, a shot back up the middle on the first pitch.
The group also took hacks in rounds of coach pitch BP, and video of Kivlehan, Lara and Peterson in their final rounds of hitting is above.
Of note, Kivlehan swings at everything, which is not unusual in coach pitch, but he did so in live arm as well. I have heard he is an aggressive hitter but that paid off last year for him both in Double A and in the Arizona Fall League.
Notes
• In addition to Happ, Danny Farquhar, Charlie Furbush, Stephen Landazuri, Lucas Luetge, Joe Saunders, Sam Gaviglio, Tyler Olson, Justin Germano and Rafael Perez threw to hitters.
• Hisashi Iwakuma threw a 40-pitch bullpen and reported after that it went well.
• Things could get a little interesting here as there is rain in the forecast both Saturday and Sunday.
