Lazaro Montes once again showcased why he’s one of the most intriguing prospect in the Seattle Mariners’ highly regarded farm system.

Three observations from Seattle Mariners’ series loss in Houston

The left-handed slugger went on another tear with three home runs and four multi-hit games during the High-A Everett AquaSox’s six-game series against the Hillsboro Hops. Montes finished the week 9 for 23 with four extra-base hits, six RBIs and five runs scored. He also flashed some defense and speed in the process.

Montes, ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the M’s organization and No. 36 overall by MLB Pipeline, started his week with a pair of extra-base hits Tuesday. That included a moonshot solo home run over the high fence in straightaway center field at Hillsboro Ballpark. He repeated the same feat the following day, logging two hits while belting another home run to straightaway center field.

The 20 year old outfielder added an outfield assist to his week during Wednesday’s performance, cutting down a Hops runner (with a big assist on the tag by AquaSox catcher Freuddy Batista) trying to score from second on a single from his spot in right field.

Montes tied his season best with three hits Friday, including a 114 mph laser shot over the wall in right field for his 10th home run of the season.

According to MiLB.com’s Chris Clegg, all three of Montes’ home runs on the week came off the bat at 108 mph or higher.

Montes collected two more hits on Sunday and put his wheels to use when he scored from first on a double in the right-center fielder gap that was cut off well in front of the warning track.

After his stellar week, Montes is hitting .280 with a .391 on-base percentage and .956 OPS. He leads the Northwest League in home runs, slugging percentage (.565) and OPS, and shares the league lead with 22 extra-base hits.

Montes is also the only position player to Northwest League player of the week honors twice this season, which could become three times when weekly awards are announced Monday.
