Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh set for rehab assignment

Seattle Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Everett on Sunday, Seattle Sports Mariners insider Shannon Drayer reported late Wednesday morning.

Drayer said the plan is for Raleigh to join Triple-A Tacoma next Tuesday and play the rest of the week there before the club assesses where their star catcher is at.

The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude reported Raleigh will be the designated hitter for Everett on Sunday and will play catcher when he joins Tacoma.

MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reported earlier in the day that Raleigh will remain in Seattle to rehab when the Mariners leave for a 10-game road trip, noting Raleigh has been ramping up baseball activities in the past few days, including running, swinging and catching drills.

The Mariners open their road trip on Friday in Detroit.

Raleigh, the American League MVP runner-up during a 60-homer campaign in 2025, has been out since May 14 with a right oblique strain.

After going on the 10-day injured list, Raleigh reported to Arizona to begin rehabbing the injury. This past Friday, he took swings off a tee for the first time – 15 from each side of the plate at moderate intensity. He rejoined the team in Seattle on Saturday. On Monday, Raleigh caught his first bullpen session since returning to the club.

Prior to landing on the IL, Raleigh was scuffling at the plate. In 41 games, the slugger was batting .151 with a .560 OPS and seven homers. His early struggles included an 0-for-38 slump.

While Raleigh’s absence is a major one for the M’s, the club has gotten some unexpected offensive production from Jhonny Pereda and Mitch Garver in his absence. The duo had a combined .237 batting average, .776 OPS, 124 wRC+ and four homers in 18 games since Raleigh’s injury entering Wednesday. Mariners catchers are third in MLB in homers and fourth in OPS and wRC+ during the stretch.
