M’s prospect Lazaro Montes crushes HR in 1st home game for Tacoma
The slugging outfielder launched a 431-foot homer in his second at-bat at Cheney Stadium.

It didn’t take long for Seattle Mariners prospect Lazaro Montes to put his power on display for fans at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.
Mariners share expected timelines on 3 injured bullpen arms
Playing in his first home game with the Rainiers since a July 7 promotion to Triple-A, Montes crushed a 431-foot, two-run home run to right field that came off the bat at 110.4 mph in the fourth inning of Tacoma’s 5-4 win over the Oklahoma City Comets.
The homer was the second for Montes in seven games with Tacoma. It was also his 27th homer in the minors this season, the fourth-most across all levels.
The 21-year-old Montes is the third-ranked prospect in the Mariners’ farm system and No. 26 in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.
Michael Arroyo, who was promoted to Triple-A alongside Montes, also checked in with a single for his 10th hit in seven games with the Rainiers. The 21-year-old left fielder/second baseman has reached base safely is six games and collected at least one hit in five since his promotion. He’s batting .333 (10 for 30) with a 1.056 OPS and five extra-base hits, including two homers, with Tacoma.
Arroyo is the Mariners’ fourth-ranked prospect and No. 41 in MLB, per MLB Pipeline.
Additionally, Mariners utility man Brendan Donovan was playing for Tacoma on Friday in the second game of his rehab assignment. He went 0 for 4 at the plate with two strikeouts.
Donovan is expected to need a minimum of 10 days, and likely longer, before being considered for major league activation, Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Friday.
