Mariners legend Jamie Moyer throws out ALCS Game 4 first pitch

SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners went to the well of well-known names from the past once again for the ceremonial first pitch of Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on Thursday.

A day after former flamethrowing left-hander Randy Johnson threw out the first pitch, former soft-tossing southpaw Jamie Moyer was on hand to take part in the traditional pregame ceremony. Bryce Miller, who will start Game 5 for Seattle on Friday, was on the receiving end of Moyer’s first pitch.

Additionally, UW Huskies men’s basketball legend Nate Robinson was on hand as a pregame hype man to get the crowd of over 40,000 going with a towel waive, and Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready played the National Anthem.

Moyer joined longtime manager Lou Piniella, outfielder Jay Buhner, first baseman Alvin Davis and Johnson as M’s icons to throw out the first pitching during the 2025 playoff run. If the pattern holds, there will be another for Friday’s Game 5.

Moyer pitched for the Mariners from 1996-2006, compiling a 145-87 record and 3.97 ERA while helping the franchise reach the playoffs three times. In 2001, he held the Yankees to two runs over seven innings during Seattle’s lone win the ALCS, which was the last time they made it that before this season. He was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2015.

Robinson, who led the Husky men to NCAA Tournament berths in 2004 an 2005, underwent a kidney transplant in February. He had announced in October 2022 had been going through treatments for renal kidney failure for four years.
