M’s have highest-rated prospect trio in Keith Law’s latest rankings

The Seattle Mariners have arguably the best trio of prospects in baseball right now, according to one longtime analyst.

The Athletic’s Keith Law released his updated list of the top 50 prospects in baseball on Wednesday. Three Mariners made the cut – all in Law’s top 17 – and another was mentioned as a player who has caught his attention.

Left-hander Kade Anderson (No. 4), right-hander Ryan Sloan (No. 8) and switch-hitting shortstop Felnin Celesten (No. 17) were the three M’s farmhands who were highly rated by Law. Each also made a noticeable jump, including a massive leap by Celesten.

Anderson, who was the No. 27 prospect in Law’s preseason top 100 rankings, was the highest-rated pitcher and non-shortstop in Wednesday’s update. The LSU product has wowed through his first eight starts with Double-A Arkansas. He has a 1.63 ERA and 0.80 WHIP with 58 strikeouts to seven walks over 38 2/3 innings. Anderson, 21, has allowed one run or fewer in seven starts and no runs in five.

Sloan moved up 13 spots from his previous ranking of No. 21 before the season. The 20-year-old right-hander has hit speed bumps in Double-A this year, posting a 5.17 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 38 strikeouts to 10 walks in 31 1/3 innings over eight starts. Two of Sloan’s better outings have come this month: five innings of two-run ball on May 9 and 4 2/3 scoreless innings on May 16.

Celesten, 20, was one of the highest risers on Law’s list following his torrid start with High-A Everett, making a massive 60-spot leap from his No. 77 preseason ranking. After injuries limited him to just 136 games from 2023-25 and caused him to freefall in many prospect rankings, Celesten has produced a .329/.435/.493 slash line with a .928 OPS, four homers, 11 doubles and 27 walks to 35 strikeouts in 42 games with the AquaSox. He also went on a 25-game hitting streak that was snapped last Friday, the longest hitting streak in the minors this year.

The Mariners were the only organization to have three prospects in Law’s top 17. The Los Angeles Dodgers were close with three in the top 18.

In addition to Anderson, Sloan and Celesten, Law highlighted catcher Luke Stevenson as one of 10 players he expects to make his top 100 after the 2026 season.

The 21-year-old Stevenson was a Competitive Balance Round A pick by the M’s last year. In 36 games at High-A this season, he’s slashing .260/.429/.439 with an .868 OPS, three homers, 13 doubles and 36 walks to 43 strikeouts.
